Swiftwater Rescue Advanced

Valid for 3 Years | Rescue 3 International | $475.00

Swiftwater Rescue Advanced builds on the skills learned in Swiftwater Rescue Technician and Rope Rescue Technician. The advanced course is taught by rescuers, provides teams the opportunity to assess their abilities, and learn new skills in realistic settings. Swiftwater Rescue Advanced is geared toward Fire All Hazards Rescue teams, High functioning Search and Rescue teams, Military Spec Ops teams, Disaster Response teams, Boarder Patrol, Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers, and others who operate at a high level for rescue.

These courses are typically taught as a custom private course. If you would like to host a course give us a call and we can discuss details and venues. We are available to travel internationally to accommodate mission profiles or logistical needs of your group.

Course Details

  • Swiftwater Rescue Advanced gives you the opportunity to combine your swiftwater and your rope rescue skills in a dynamic river environment. This swiftwater class is the third needed for rescue personnel who want to be able handle an all hazards water rescue. Completing this course will allow you to meet the NFPA requirements and standards to be assess at the Technician Level for water. This swiftwater course takes the rescuer who has completed Swiftwater Rescue Technician (SRT) and Rope Rescue Technician level (RRT) and reinforces self-rescue skills while further concentrateing on rescue in hard to get areas and more difficult swiftwater situations. This is done by integrating the rope and water rescue techniques into more difficult technical swiftwater rescue situations.

Operations at night, evacuations from technical river locations, bigger water techniques, and scene management and leadership are some of the skills you will learn in this dynamic Swiftwater Rescue Course.

The course is typically taught over 3 days and includes a night rescue scenario on the night of day 2.

Courses are custom taught to the operational needs of the student group. When possible we are willing to incorporate specialized equipment and/or locations into the course to meet the mission profiles of your group.

 FAQs

  • Swiftwater Rescue Technician Advanced covers a wide range of skills and techniques that can be applied to rivers and floods. Some the course is devoted to improving and advancing your personal swiftwater rescue skills. These include advanced throw bagging, challenging rope crossings, difficult to access victim entrapments, and bigger water swimming. Team based skills are stressed with many scenarios created to push teams limits and provide learning opportunities. The night evolution provides realistic feedback for searching a night and operating at night.

  • We think that all rescuers who are striving to be able to respond effectively to swiftwater rescue accidents and incidents should continue to advance their skills with an advanced course. The Swiftwater Rescue Advanced course strives to put rescuers into as many realistic scenarios as possible. This provides opportunity to think outside the box and instills a problem solving mindset.

If you are wanting to be able to operate in difficult and challenging water environments you should take the prerequisite swiftwater and technical rope courses and put it all together in an Advanced Swiftwater Course!

  • We hope that after a course each of our students and teams continue to work on and improve their swiftwater and technical rescue abilities. In-house training is a huge part of this and really shows when a team arrives in a class to re-certify or advance their skill set.

  • Typically swiftwater rescue certification lasts three years from the date of completion.

Of course the skills don’t expire but as with many technical skills they are perishable. Swiftwater rescue is a low frequency high risk event. This combined with student skill atrophy over time, we feel that three years is as long as you should go with out a solid refresher. (You really should be practicing some variety of the skills, multiple time a year on your own).

Our goal is to continue to push you to be better and do more difficult things with each recertification. Often you will be given charge of the rescue and will be asked to expand on the entire rescue picture not just the water portion. We hope your recertification is something you look forward to, arriving with ideas you want to try and focus on.
